Jewelry makes an ideal gift, and not just for birthdays, birthstone
jewelry will always add an extra element of excitement when it is
received.
Modern Birthstones are from the official birthstone list from the American National Association of Jewelers of America. These birthstones form the accepted list for modern birthstones in the US. Traditional Birthstones contain older birthstones and sometimes newer birthstones. The birthstones in the traditional list include stones going back to the 15th century. Different jewelers may offer a different list for traditional birthstones as there is no official list of traditional birthstones available. Mystical Birthstones originate from Tibet, the list is over a thousand years old. The Ayurvedic Birthstone list is from Ayurvedic Indian Medicine which was practiced for over a thousand years. Birthstones date back to at least the first century. There is some speculation that the twelve stones in the breastplate of the Jewish high priest (Aaron) may have had some bearing on the concept of birthstones.
